The consortium formed by IBERIAN OFFSHORE and METALMECANICAS HERJIMAR delivered the engineering, fabrication and installation package of the temporary reinforcement of 3x Port cranes that were transported from Santander, Spain, to Villagarcía de Arosa, Spain, this summer 2017.
IBERIAN OFFSHORE lead the engineering and site supervision, whereas HERJIMAR took care of the prefabrication and installation of the temporary reinforcement. Due to the complexity of the operation and space constrains, a solution that allowed the cranes to slew their boom whenever required was implemented, which facilitated the positioning of the cranes on its lifting location without having to shift the vessel or perform welding or hot works on board. Thanks to this solution, the operation was executed in an optimal timeframe. The cranes, weighing around 280 t each, were lifted onto the INTERMARINE MV Industrial Skipper, and subsequently seafastened to the deck by means of a heavy steel structure.
The age of the cranes and the lack of available information challenged the team, but the experience on steel works and field operations granted a successful project. A summary of the whole operation may be seen in the following clip:
